Biography of Ann Chrysler

Dimensional Needle Felting can be a very relaxing art as it can be done while sitting in your favorite comfy chair and requires very few materials.

I discovered this art in 2009, and quickly became interested in making teddy bears as my first major interest while felting. While making the bears I soon discovered I could create “people” and  found myself enjoying the creation of human-like characters.  As my skills grew, I learned to sculpt real people as well as fictional characters.  My biggest influences are the many artists I continue to meet on-line around the world.  Most of my skills were learned from Birgitte Krag Hansen and Kay Petal, two of the leading artists in this field.

Some of my pieces have won awards in on-line contests thanks to learning the many techniques that make dimensional needle felting possible.

As with most artists, I have developed some of my own techniques. I hope to continue to grow with my knowledge and skills of Dimesional Needle Felting.  There is no end to what can be sculpted with wool.

I have been involved with arts and crafts most of my adult life.  Sewing was my first love and have won awards with my clothing.

“Bears of the Heart by Ann” were very popular and my customers always loved their fully jointed memory” bears even though my original intention was to create my own collection of mohair teddy bears. I did manage to work a few mohair bears in amongst the many bears that kept me very busy for a few years.

I had worked with paper tole, tole painting, ceramics, macrame`, crocheting, all kinds of needlework including ribbon flowers and ribbon embroidery and many other artsy/crafty things over the years, teaching many of them.

After many years of a variety of creativity I finally decided to narrow my hobbies down to “needlework” only.  Then along came needle felting.  It fit right in; I decided to try it and was immediately addicted.  The needle felting took over and I have never looked back.

I, also, taught classes in Dimensional Needle Felting at (ACA) Adrian Center for the Arts in my own studio.
